ALL ABOUT ART!

Dear Parents,
We continue to prepare for the Art Show which will be held on April 8th.  Barbara Marder, our visiting artist, came to our class to teach us about the Winslow Homer, artist.   Homer is regarded by many as one of the greatest American painters of the 19th century.  He was born February 24th 1836 in Boston, Massachusetts and is famous for ocean paintings from the cold, gray waters of
New England and the warm waters of the Caribbean.

Barbara first demonstrated how to draw a few simple shapes. Some of the shapes that she sketched were wavy lines, circles, and triangles. The children were given black sharpies and canvases.  Barbara instructed the children with step by step directions on how to draw water, a sailboat, a lighthouse, a sun, and rocks.

The children then watercolored their sailboats.  We certainly do have talented artists in our class. The children were all so proud of their accomplishments!

The class worked on their math skills by making patterns out of guitar stickers.  They solved addition problems by counting with musical instruments and also created a graph by counting different pictures of string instruments. Please check out our Math, Science, and Social Studies board to see how much the children have learned.

This week the children learned how to write, sound out, and named words that start with letter "K." Some of the words that the children came up with were Kitten, Kate, Kurt, Karate, Kick, and Kangaroo.

In Mandarin, Ms. Peishuan reviewed the colors and the words socks and shoes while reading "Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes." In addition, she introduced the words boots, umbrella, and raincoat.  The children had a fun time singing a song about the rain and standing under an open umbrella.

In piano this week, with Ms. Yuting, the children practiced Mississippi Hot Dog.  The structure of the song is like a sandwich (bread first, 2 slices of cheese, and another slice of bread on top).

Ms. Sarah, violin teacher, reviewed the bunny bow hold, rest position, and the clapping song.

We celebrated Maddie's 4th birthday this week.  Thank you to Maddie's parents for bringing in the delicious cake and cupcakes.

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY MADDIE!
We concluded our week by making a 3-D art project using
paper circles, spirals, and accordion folded strips.

Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Denise
