kind sensory lesson

Dear Parents,
We engaged the children in our "Kind Word Sensory Lesson.  First we read Should I share my Ice Cream?
by Mo Williams.  After the story, we gave each child a cotton ball and asked them to describe it.  The children remarked that the cotton ball was soft, fluffy, and made them happy. We discussed how
happy we feel when our friends are nice to use, just like how the cotton ball made us feel.
Next, we handed out pieces of sand paper.  The children felt the paper and said it was rough, it made their arms hurt, and that it left a mark that hurt.  We equated that to how it feels when someone says something mean or takes something away from us.

This week we did many activities to prepare for Valentine's Day.  On Monday we made adorable balloon heart cards, using heart stamps.  We also made heart necklaces.

On Tuesday, the children made special heart Valentines for a friend in our class.  The children first cut out a heart shape out of card stock.  Then, they glued on various designed red and pink paper to make a collage.  They finished their cards by stamping several different Valentine designs on the back and then signed their names. The children will exchange the heart cards during our Valentine's Day party.

Each child decorated mail boxes with various types of hearts and stickers to be used for our valentine cards exchange during our Valentine's Day party on Friday, January 11th.

Mandarin with Ms. Peishuan:
In two weeks it will be Lunar New Year (2/12) ! Today we talked about the story of the 12 zodiac animals. And we did the first two of the 12 zodiac animal exercises, rat and ox. Kids also learned how to write ox 牛

Notes:

~   Make sure your child comes to school each day         with boots, hats, gloves, and waterproof snow             pants.

Have a great weekend!
