Dear Parents,

Penelope is the calendar person.

Raya is the weather person.

We had a great week exploring nature.  The children made a collage out of leaves, which they pressed onto contact paper.  They used red, green, yellow, orange, and brown leaves, and pine needles.  The collages look great displayed on out classroom window.

On Wednesday the children created pumpkin people. They added hair and googly eyes, to a pumpkin template and then they folded strips of paper into an accordion. Finally, they glued them onto their pumpkin as arms and legs.

Ms. Mallari taught the children a finger play named "Five Little Pumpkins."

She also taught the children a song called "Autumn Leaves"

Leaves are Falling Down" (sung to the tune of London Bridge").
Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down,
Orange, green, red, and brown.
Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down,
Orange, green, red, and brown.

We read some stories about pumpkins  and then the children embellished their own pumpkins with yarn, hair, googly eyes, stickers, and jewels, etc.  Each child did a great job creating their own unique pumpkin.

After learning so much about pumpkins we decided to bake pumpkin muffins.  Mmmm....were they good!

We concluded our week with a special visitor, Nina, from Animal Adventures.  She brought several animals, which the children even had a chance to pat them.  I am not sure who enjoyed  seeing the animals more, the teachers or the children.

Some of the animals we saw were:
~John the Hut (eye lash gecko)
~Crash (domesticated ferret)
~Lex Luther (hairless rat)
~Boba ( hedge hog)
~Dot (Russian tortoise)
~Sundance (plated lizard)
~ Snowflake (chinchilla)
~ Magic (the lion head bunny)
~Cerberus, name after Harry Potter (Columbian     Boa)
~Gucci (baby American alligator)

Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Mallari
