DENTAL HEALTH!

Dear Parents,

We introduced our unit on “Dental Health" by reading Peppa Pig's Trip to the Dentist by, Scholastic Inc. and Sugar Bug Doug, by Ben Magleby.  We then had a discussion about good dental hygiene. We practiced brushing our teeth and flossing, using a dental model. We also learned a new tooth brushing song ~Brush, brush your teeth, gently up and down.  Visit your dentist twice a year and you won't have a frown.

We practiced flossing using pieces of playdough for the food particles, Legos for the teeth, and yarn for the floss.

We played a game where we put various kinds of foods into two categories: Good for Teeth and Bad for Teeth.  The children put the vegetables, fruits, and cheese in the good for teeth group and the ice cream, donuts, and cupcakes into the bad for teeth group because they contain sugar.

We made toothbrushes using Wow Butter, pretzel rods, and bananas.

We completed our dental unit by making our own set of teeth.  The children spread Wow butter (from the protein group) onto apple slices, and finally added cubes of apples (from the fruit group).  They put it all together and voila! a set of teeth!

Esther ( purple room teacher) came into our classroom and taught the children about Havdalah  She read a book called, Havdalah Sky.

Each Friday evening, families around the world bring in Shabbat with favorite foods, blessings over candles, wine or grape juice, and challah.

Havdalah, or “separation” in Hebrew, is Shabbat’s closing ritual, when three stars appear on Saturday evening. We light a candle with seven wicks to symbolize the seven days of the week. In a simple ceremony, we make blessings with the lit candle and feel the warmth and glow of the fire. We drink wine or grape juice, and smell spices. Havdalah is an inspiring way to end Shabbat and start the new week as a family.

Happy 4th birthday Jonathan!! Thank you to his mom and dad for visiting our class and for the delicious chocolate cupcakes. We had so much fun listening to the dinosaur story.

Playtime in the classroom

Shabbat Shalom!

Have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
Bonne & Denise
