One pretty little pumpkin!
This week in math, we counted candy corn and colored it in on our activity counting sheets. We might have eaten a few in the process.
We engineered experiments using pumpkins:
1. We drew a picture of a pumpkin
2. We measured it using unifix cubes
3. We counted pumpkin seeds
4. We counted the lines on the pumpkin
5. We each made a prediction whether a pumpkin will sink or float.
We read a book about pumpkins and then had a discussion and then created a pumpkin web.
Happy Birthday Aarav!
Happy Birthday Leticia!
Aarav's mom visited our classroom on Thursday to teach us about the holiday Diwali. Diwali is India's biggest holiday of the year. It is a five day festival of lights. Many people celebrate Diwali by decorating their homes and shops with candles and colorful lights to protect them from negativity. A special thank you for Aarav's mom for bringing us the delicious Ladoo which is made from chickpea flour, vegetable oil, and cardamon.
Some of the songs we sang in music this week with Ms. Lisa were: "Ten Little Ghosts," and "Creeping, Creeping." We also danced around as skeletons, witches, cats, and monsters. We clapped, marched, and shook eggs to the rhythm of the music.
In Mandarin/music, the children sang "Ba Ba Black Sheep." They also pretended to be the sheep and gave away three bags full to a"master" and a "dame" and a little girl/boy who lives down the lane. In addition, the children learned how to sing London Bridge in Mandarin.
On Friday, we concluded our fun pumpkin themed week by making pumpkin bread. We each measured and added all the ingredients and baked it just in time for lunch. It was so delicious! The recipe for the pumpkin bread is in the children's cubbies.
Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Denise
