ALL ABOUT VAN GOGH!

Dear Parents,
This week we learned about Vincent Van Gogh.  We learned that he was a Dutch painter.  Unlike most artists, Van Gogh did not decide to become a painter until he was grown up.  He worked at an art gallery, tried teaching, and he was a preacher like his dad.  None of these things made him happy until he decided to become a painter.

We looked at paintings by Van Gogh and decided to paint his famous sunflower.  We also looked at real sunflowers.  The children did a great job on their paintings!

In Mandarin class with Ms. Peishuan, the children had to think of ways to stop a crying baby.   Some of the children's ideas were: Giving the baby a bottle, toys, a blanket, a diaper, a pacifier, and apple sauce.  Then, they sang a fun song about each item and Ms. Peishuan changed her picture of a crying baby into a happy one.  The children also played the triangle while singing "Hickory Dickory Doc."

The letter of the week was "I".  We practiced writing it, sounding it out, and brainstorming a list of words beginning with the letter. Some of the words we came up with were:  In, igloo, inside, Indian, insect, and inch.  So far the letters we have
learned are: L, F, E, H, T, and I.

We celebrated Eleanor's 4th birthday this week.  We would like to thank her family for the delicious cupcakes and marble bread.

Fun in the playground:

We introduced the holiday of Halloween by reading, If I Were a Witch, by Pauline Cartwright.  The children then created foot print witches.  We painted their feet green and purple.  Then they stamped them onto black paper, added hair, eyes, a witch hat and a broom. Voila!  A witch was created.

On Friday, we finished making our witches and started our ghost project.  We were in such a Halloween mood that we even had time to make bats.

Love,
Ms. Bonne

Notes:
Please have your child in school on time.  We usually have our morning meeting at 9:15.  This is an important part of the day when a great deal of learning takes place.

Please bring the proper utensils with your child's lunch and afternoon snack.
