We began our holiday unit by learning about Hanukkah and Christmas. We read "Daddy Christmas and Hanukkah Mama." If you celebrate a different holiday, please let us know so we can celebrate your holiday as well. We had a discussion about how we celebrate our holidays. Some of the things we do are: Getting together with our families, having a big meal together, lighting candles, decorating our homes and giving gifts.
The children are all so excited to have a new friend in our classroom.

| WELCOME CLAIRE1! |
We had lots of fun this week preparing for the holidays. We introduced our holiday unit by doing an excellent fine motor activity. The children sewed two mittens together with a needle and yarn. They glued cotton balls on top of the mitten. The children then created a fireplace by painting bricks. Finally, we painted a menorah which we placed on top of the fireplace. The children marble painted the candles for the menorah.
Some of the holiday songs that we have been practicing are: "I Have a Little Dreidel," "Oh Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah" "We Wish You a Merry Christmas,"and "Jingle Bells."
We continued to work on learning our alphabet letters. This week we learned the letter "C." The children brainstormed a list of words that begin with the letter such as: Cat, cap, cut, coffee, and Conor. The children have done an amazing job learning the letters and their sounds. They can now sound out nine words: Elf, left, felt, fit, cut, let, hit, hut, and lit.
Other fun areas in the classroom and playground:

The children have also been very busy decorating cards and holiday surprises for you. They can hardly wait to give them to you!
Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Denise
Reminders:
~Please make sure your child has a complete extra change of clothes in their cubby.
~Please send your children with mittens, hat, and a warm coat. It gets very cold on the playground.
