All ABOUT ME!

Dear Parents,

The Half Notes have done an amazing job settling into our classroom.  The children are beginning to learn our classroom routines.  It is so exciting watching the children make new friendships and negotiating the use of the toys.

We started our week creating our own mini people.  The children used yarn for the hair, googly eyes, pompoms, and colorful buttons to decorate them. They participated in making "Mat Man" a figure representing a person, constructed out of wooden shapes.  Then they drew their own self-portrait, which we adorned our classroom bulletin board with.  They were so proud of their accomplishments.

Some of the stories the children enjoyed listening to were I Like Me, by Nancy Carlson,  My Very Big Little World, by Peter Reynolds, and I Like Myself!, by Karen Beaumont.

They children also loved singing songs, playing instruments and dancing. Some of the songs we learned this week were:

"The More We Get Together", "Good Morning to You", and "I am Special."

In music with Ms. Lisa, we started our class rolling and passing along a ball to our classmates to a classical tune. After we did a series of musical activities.  We learned how to put our rhythm sticks in rest and playing position.  Also, we sang "Michael Finnegan, Pop Goes the Weasel, and When Cows Wake Up in the Morning."

In Ms Peishuan's class this week the children learned the Mandarin words for waving, clapping, and washing hands.  Afterwards, they did the hand movements for each action and repeated the words in Mandarin.
揮手
huī shǒu
to wave (one's hand)

拍手
pāi shǒu
to clap one's hands

洗手
xǐ shǒu

to wash one's hands
