Welcome back to school. We hope you had wonderful vacation. In honor of Earth Day we read I Can Save The Earth, by Alison Inches. Then we planted seeds and created a mini garden. We had a discussion about the three things it takes for flowers to grow such as: sun, water, and fertile soil. We then planted zinnia flowers.
We also learned the "Garden Song"by Raffi. Press the link below to listen:

The letter we learned this week was "V." Some of words the children named beginning with the letter were: violin, violet, valentine, and vegetable. In addition, we practiced writing the letter in our work books and on our meeting white board.
Other fun activities:
You like my picture? I made it out of tape.
The highlight of the week was a visit from Puddlestompers Nature Exploration Program. Jessie taught the class about ducks. She brought in a stuffed duck which she used to demonstrate how ducks swim with their webbed feet. She also explained how their down feathers to keep them warm and top feathers to keep their bodies dry. In addition, Jessie spoke to the children about duck nests. Ducks use feathers, sticks, and leaves to make sturdy nests. The children then pretended to be ducks outside on the courtyard and gathered leaves and sticks to make a huge nest. Jessie even provided eggs to place in the nest.
In music class with Ms. Lisa the children practiced making beats with a drum, sang the "Good Morning,"" Tide-O," and "Big Clock and Little Clock song."
The rest of the week was spent on making cards and Mother's Day surprises.
Notes:
Please have your child to school by 9:00 or 9:15 the latest. A great deal of learning takes place in the morning such as: morning meeting, announcing activities of the day, music, math, and a time for sharing.
Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school every day.
Finally, if your child will be absent from school please send us an email to let us know.
Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Denise
