Hi Everyone,
We miss you so much! We just hope you are enjoying spending time with your family, taking walks and playing games. We thought of some fun and educational activities you can do with your family.
Read, read, and read some more. But, don't stop there. After reading one of your child's favorite story have a discussion about the story. Then have them either paint or draw a picture of their favorite characters in the story. You can also write out some of the words in the story and have them trace and copy them.
Math: Anything can become a math lesson! Take a walk and collect acorns, pine cones, twigs, pebbles, etc., and then count all your treasures.
Card Games: Just get an ordinary set of playing cards and place 10 to 20 cards upside down on the table.
~ Take turns matching them.
~Have children count how many aces, clubs, hearts and diamonds.
~Children can sort them and put them in numerical order.
Cooking and baking: How about baking cookies with your children? You can decorate them with sprinkles, chocolate chips, or other types of toppings. You can even incorporate math, into the
activity such as: counting scoops, counting cookies and using measuring spoons. The children can even talk about how many different ingredients they have used.
Exercise: Set a timer for 20 or 30 seconds and then have them count how many times they can run in place, hop, and skip, etc.
Download some children songs and have them dance to the music.
You can even stop the music periodically and have them freeze.
Play shadow dancing by choosing a leader and then having everyone else follow their steps.
Dramatic play: Help the children create a puppet theatre by folding a sheet of poster board or card stock into thirds and then decorate it with stickers, or cut out pictures in magazines. You can then cut out a rectangle in the center to put the puppets through. Use stuffed animals, figures, or dolls, as the puppets.
You can even tape paper or fabric onto the theatre, to use as a curtain.
I certainly hope these activities help to keep your children entertained.
If you have questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me.
WE MISS YOU, HALF NOTES!
Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Denise
