INSPIRED BY OUR OWN YOUNG ARTISTS!

Dear Parents,

This week our art project was "Inspired by our own young artists. " The children created their own unique sculptures.  They were each given a large wooden block to use a base, a pile of wooden pieces, corks, two googly eyes, and glue.  The only instruction they were given was to create something with the wood.  It was so much fun listening to the dialog between the children while they were planning out their sculptures. One child said, "I am making a hovercraft,  "Did you know that it can go water and on land?"  The results were sensational!

On Thursday we created dragon sculptures inspired by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino or Raphael.

Raphael (1483-1520) was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. He was best known for his Madonnas and for his The School of Athens in the Vatican.  Along with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, they were considered the trinity of great masters of that era.

We decided to make dragons based on Raphael's painting, Saint Michael and the Dragon. The children had so much fun squishing, kneading, and shaping their clay into a dragon.  They used gems for the eyes and different colors of tulle for the dragon's wings.  We let the clay dry over night and then the children painted them with shiny gold paint. They look magically magnificent!

This week we learned all about the letter "M."  The children practiced writing several  in their work books and learned the sound that it makes.  They also, came up with several words beginning with the letter, such as:  Margot, Mira, Martina, Maya, Mama, Milk, and Monkey.

Other fun areas in the classroom:
"Do you like my new headband?"

Dorothy is modeling her new cape.

Ms. Becca, who teaches violin to our class is inviting our children to participate in the 2020 Playathon.  It will be on Sunday, March 29th from 12-6 at the Chestnut Hill Mall (199 Boylston St, Chestnut Hill, 02467). Performance times will be assigned to each group.

If you would like your child to participate, please let us know so that Ms. Becca can bring their foam violin to the Playathon.

Love,

Ms. Bonne & Ms. Denise
