Dear Parents,
This week we focused on doing math and science activities. We started our week off by counting and sorting leaves. The children glued the leaves onto a chart according to the color, such as: red, orange, yellow green and brown.
The class made a graph by counting fall items such as, acorns, pinecones, feathers, grasshoppers, apples, spiders, lady bugs, and bees. They first counted the item, counted the same number of unifix cubes and put them on the graph. It was a fun and interactive math activity.
The children wove their own spider webs by wrapping yarn around craft sticks. The final touch was putting a creepy spider on top. Please take a look at them hanging in the vestibule windows.
Science Activities:
We had so much fun experimenting with baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring in the sand box. The children first built a large mountain out of sand and placed a cup in the middle. We then added the baking soda, food coloring, and vinegar. The children screamed with joy as they watched the volcano erupt.
We did another science experiment using orange and green skittles, warm water, and a large round plate. We arranged the orange skittles in a circle around the plate and added green on the top. Warm water was added to the center and the colors from the skittles all melted together. Ask you child about the results!
The children practiced writing the letter "I" in their workbooks and sounding it out. Some "I" words that they came up with were insects, ice cream, inside, and ice.
The children practiced counting Halloween objects such as, cats, bats, pumpkins, and ghosts. They also did a spooky graphing activity sheet with cauldrons, pumpkins, witches hats and ghosts.
We also played Halloween Bingo:
