Dear Parents,
This week we learned about Vincent van Gogh. We learned that he was a Dutch painter. Some of his famous works are: Starry Night, Cafe Terrace at Night, Irises, and Sunflowers. He was a post impressionist artist who did not decide to become a painter until he was grown up. He worked at an art gallery, tried teaching, and he was a preacher like his dad. None of these things made him happy until he decided to become a painter.
We looked at paintings by van Gogh and decided to recreate his famous painting called Bedroom in Arles.
'
We started our project by painting a miniature bedroom made of folded card stock. The children glued on a picture of a wooden floor and a framed picture of themselves. The children created their own paintings using watercolors. We took pictures of their painting and reduced the size of it to fit on their wall.
The next thing we added to our miniature bedrooms was furniture. The children cut and rolled clay to make a bed, a table, and a chair. After they dried, the children painted them with watercolors. They did such a wonderful job.
