This week we learned about the Impressionist artist, Mary Cassatt. Cassatt (1844-1926) was an American artist who was originally from Pennsylvania. She eventually moved to Paris to learn more about the Impressionist technique. She befriended fellow Impressionist, Edgar Degas who was influential to her painting style. She is most known for her paintings of children and mothers, focusing on everyday moments in life.
Children Playing on the Beach, 1884
We were so inspired by her painting "Children Playing on the Beach" that we decided to make our own beach scene. First, we painted a sky with a sunset background on the beach with watercolors. Then we glued a picture of each child playing in the sandbox playing with a pail and shovel. Finally, we glued on sand, shells, and sea glass onto the bottom of the canvas. The children were so proud of their beautiful artwork!
On Monday we celebrated Kush's 4th birthday. Tuesday, we celebrated Kavya's 4th birthday and on Friday we celebrated Charlotte and Ethan's 4th birthday. Thank you to everyone's parents for sending in all the delicious treats and party favors.
Happy Birthday Kush!!
