Nutrition and Easter Week

Dear Parents,

This week we finished our unit on nutrition by learning about the grain group.  We completed our grain page and made the cover to the book.  The children made a healthy food plate placemat by adding pictures and stickers to each food group.  We added a picture of each child with a cup of milk for the dairy group.

The grain group is made up of grains and food made from grains.  Rice, oats, bread, and pasta are made from grains.  Grains are loaded with fiber which helps food move through our bodies. Iron and B vitamins are also in grains which gives us energy to run and play.

The letter of the week was "V." The children practiced writing it in their workbooks and sounding out the letter.  We came up with several "V" words such as:  Venus, Violin, Vermont, Virginia, Vulture, Viola, and Violet.

On Wednesday, we had our Easter egg hunt around the playground.  The children had so much fun collecting them!

We also made a cute baby chick craft. The children glued yellow tissue paper onto a circle cut out. They glued on googly eyes, feathers, and a beak and finally clipped on two clothespins for the legs.  They look absolutely adorable!

Thursday we had a festive Easter party.   We enjoyed Rice Krispie treats, bunny cheese crackers, chocolate covered flower pretzels.  Thank you to Daniel's grandmother Gail for taking the time to make the pretzels for us! We are so incredibly thankful!

To add to our festivities, we also colored Easter eggs and decorated our baskets.  The children were so excited with their eggs, that they could hardly wait to bring them home!

Fun at school!

Next week we look forward to learning about dental health, fitness, and yoga.

Have a great weekend!
