Dear Parents,
This week we learned about all of the five food groups. We started our unit with the dairy group. We read the Dairy Group Book by Megan Borgerrt-Spaniol. The children created a dairy page for their "Nutrition Booklet." They glued on pictures of dairy products such as yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, cheese, and sour cream. Dairy products have vitamins and minerals such as Calcium, Vitamin D, and Potassium."Sally" the milking cow was our special visitor for the day. The children each took turns milking the cow.
On Thursday, after listening to a book called Fruit by Ann Thomas, we learned that fruit contain vitamin C, have seeds, provide carbohydrates, and sugars which give us energy.
The children came up with many different kinds of fruit such as: apples, bananas, pineapples, avocados, and grapes. We learned that many fruits grow on trees and have small or large seeds. Some fruits can be dried such as: strawberries, apples, mangoes, and raisins. The children added various pictures of fruit to their books. On Friday, we learned all about vegetables.
We learned that they come from plants and don't usually taste very sweet. Vegetables contain vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates which helps us grow. They come in all different colors. There are green, yellow, orange, red, purple and white vegetables. We added pictures of various fruits and vegetables to our food rainbow.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Love,
Ms. Bonne & Ms. Denise
