Dear Parents,
We started off our week learning about the famous author and illustrator, Eric Carle. We read several books written by Eric Carle such as: The Hungry Caterpillar, Today is Monday, The Lamb and the Butterfly, and The Very Lonely Firefly. We were so inspired by the beautiful butterfly from The Hungry Caterpillar that we decided to make our own butterflies in Eric Carle's style of collage painting.
The children were given a piece of paper folded into 4 squares. The children colored with crayons on one square, markers on the next square, bingo daubers on the third square, and paint on the last square. To add more texture to the paint, the children used special tools to make squiggly lines. Some children did the color resist method and used a white crayon first to make spirals and colored over them with markers.
After the paper dried, the children cut long heart shapes, bodies, and antennas out of their papers and pasted them together to make beautiful butterflies. Each butterfly is incredibly unique and beautiful!

On Thursday, the children went to a nearby park on Moffat St. The children climbed on the structures, went down the spiral slide, played soccer on the field, climbed the monkey bars, and used the swings. They had a blast!
It was so great to see you at our parent/teacher conferences on Wednesday, thanks so much for taking time out of your day to discuss your wonderful children.
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Denise
