Dear Parents,
This week we continued our spring unit and we also had a special guest visit our class. We read a few spring themed books such as: Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehlert and Flowers by Althea Braithwaite.
We started our week making beautiful paper tulips. The children painted the tulips using watercolors and added green leaves by cutting a piece of green construction paper. We put a green striped drinking straw through the tulip for the stem. They look so amazing on our bulletin board.
On Tuesday, Ms. Bonne's "yellow naped amazon" parrot, Geddy visited our classroom for the second time this year. The children were so excited to talk to him and listen to all the words that he has learned to say. Geddy can say: Hello Geddy, Bonne, Brian, Come Here, Oh My Gosh, Byee, I'm a Lucky Bird, and What a Good Bird, etc.
On Wednesday, Ms. Lisa brought in her special collection of shark teeth from her scuba diving adventures. She showed the children a few rare prehistoric megalodon shark teeth and smaller teeth shed from sharks that live today. They may be small in size, but they are pretty sharp!
On Thursday, we conducted an experiment observing the process of capillary action, which is how plants absorb water. We put each white carnation in water mixed with food coloring. We observed each flower to see what happened. Ask your child what happened to the flowers!
We also made our own glow chalk by pouring plaster, a little bit of water, and glow paint. We mixed it all together then poured it in a special mold and waited overnight for it to dry.
Throughout the week we had plenty of time blowing bubbles on the playground. We even walked through a refreshing sprinkler on the extra hot days this week. The children and teachers had a blast!
Fun at school:
***Please make sure that your child is dressed for the appropriate weather since it is getting warmer outside.
***No School on Monday, May 31st for Memorial Day.
Have a wonderful long weekend, we will see you on Tuesday.
Love,
Ms. Bonne & Ms. Denise
