PREPARING FOR VALENTINE'S DAY!

Dear Parents,

We engaged the children in our "Kind Word Sensory Lesson." First we read Should I Share my Ice Cream? by Mo Williams.  After the story, we gave each child a cotton ball and asked them to describe it.  The children remarked that the cotton balls were soft, fluffy, and made them happy.  We discussed how happy we feel when our friends are nice to us, just like how the cotton balls made us feel.

Next, we handed out pieces of sand paper.  The children felt the paper and said it was rough, it made their arms hurt, and that it left a mark that hurt.  We equated that to how it felt when someone says something mean or takes something from us.

This week we engaged in many activities to prepare for Valentine's Day.  On Monday the children created adorable balloon heart cards, using paper towel rolls folded into heart shapes and dipped into red paint. We also made necklaces with hearts and beads.

On Tuesday, the children each chose a friend to make a special heart Valentines for. The children first cut out a heart shape.  Then, they glued on various designed red and pink paper to make a collage.  They finished their cards by stamping several different Valentine designs on the back and then signed their names. The children will exchange the heart cards during our Valentine's Day party.

On Wednesday the children made chocolate hearts for our families.  We hope you will enjoy them!  First we melted the chocolate, then the children poured it into heart shaped molds,  they tapped it on the table to get the air bubbles out, and then we refrigerated them.  The chocolate is nut free however, some of the chocolates have caramel inside of them.

This week we practiced writing and sounding out the letter "N." The children also came up with several words beginning with the letter, such as:  November, nuts, noodles, nest, and no.  N is for nest, made for baby birds.  N is for newspaper filled with words.

Love,

Ms. Bonne and Ms. Mallari
