It was so great to get back to school and to see all of our friends. We are pleased to welcome our new classmate Zebin.
We started our new unit on winter by reading Snowflakes, by Lois Ehlert. Some of the children made snow girls, snow moms, snow dads, snow cats, snow brothers and even a snow dog. Each child traced and cut out three circles, glued them together and then added eyes, hair, legs, arms, and hats, They all looked so adorable on our classroom bulletin board.

On Wednesday the children created the most adorable bottle snowmen. First they filled a bottle with powdered snow and stuck a styrofoam ball on top of it. Then they added eyes, hair, pipe cleaner arms, and scarves. Please stop by and take a look at them displayed on our classroom book case.
In math this week we worked with our STEM (science, technology, math, and experiment) weight challenge cards. First, the children predicted which items weighed more, for example: 2 bears or 5 coins. Then he/she put one set of objects on the left side of the scale and the second group on the right. Ask your child how they knew which item/s weighed more.
On Thursday we made s'more snowman treats. The children decorated their marshmallows with chocolate chips and pretzel sticks and then placed them onto a graham cracker. They were so yummy!
The class did a fantastic activity on Thursday. The children first wrote each letter of their name on circles. Then, they cut their circles, put the letters of their name in order, and glued them together.
In music, the children practiced rest position and playing position on the violin. They also reviewed the parts of the violin and held them in statue of liberty position.
On Friday, we made a snow storm in a jar. We mixed water, white paint, baby oil, glitter and Alka-Seltzer together and a blizzard went swirling around the jar. The children were in awe and enjoyed our science experiment immensely. To make the storm even stronger, the children added more Alka-Seltzer.
Other fun areas in the classroom and outside:
