Art Show Preparation

Dear Parents

This week we continued preparing for our art show which will be held on Sunday, April 7th at 12:00. The children used tempera and watercolor paint to paint their Grandma Moses pictures.  Adding the color made their paintings come to life.   The children cannot wait to show you their work at the art show.

The letter of the week was the letter "K." The children practiced writing the letter in their workbooks and came up with a few words such as:  kangaroo, Kayla, Karsin, kick, kite, kid, Kindergarten, and kitchen.

On Friday, we introduced our next artist, Andy Warhol.  Warhol was one of the leading figures in the visual art movement known as pop art.  He generally used bright, bold colors.  His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertising.  He used a variety of different artistic mediums such as painting, silk-screening, photography, film, and sculpture.

In 1954, Warhol published a book of lithographs with pictures of cats.  Taking inspiration from Warhol's love of cats, we made our own cat pictures.   The children colored in four identical pictures of cats with four alternating colors.  They also colored in eyes with fluorescent markers and glued them on to the cat. They finished off their cat pictures by gluing on black wispy whiskers.

In music, Ms. Lisa started her class with the good morning song. Then the children sang and danced to Irish folk songs.  The children continued to move to the Irish music while playing with a large parachute.
